WEEKLY UPDATES: ENJOYING BEACH READS

PicMonkey Collage

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Wow, what a slow reading week I had!  But I savored my ONE book read (and reviewed it), so I guess it’s all good. I was swept along by the beach scenes in the novel, and felt as though I were there with the characters.  I could almost smell the sweet salt air.

Hot days here were my coming-back-to-reality moments, and I stayed inside except for brief outings to the shops.

Then came the fabulous e-mail with an Amazon credit, due to a settlement with Apple e-books.  Yay!  I’ll bet you can imagine my “click to buy” delight.

There was Netflix viewing, of course, and I finished Revenge, started Orange Is the New Black.-Season 4..and then stopped.  Taking a break, but I’ll get back to it soon.

But first, let’s savor each day, especially Coffee Mornings like this one, in my newly created dining space:

I’ve been a mood reader lately…so I can visualize these books coming up next.  A review book, of course, and then…who knows?  But I like the “perfect” theme I’ve got going on…like last month’s “girls” theme:

The Perfect Girl, by Gilly MacMillan (Amazon Vine)

  1. It’s been hot here too, and sunny which is nice except when it gets real muggy- which it did a few times this week. Your reads all do look summery though, especially the first few (nice covers!) I didn’t read a lot this week either- a bit but not as much as the previous few weeks. It comes and goes. lol I hardly watched any Netflix either, I’ve pretty much exhausted everything there I wanted to watch. Hard to believe! But there are new episodes and whatnot coming so that’s good. 🙂

I love it when a book conjures up feelings of being there, glad you enjoyed your read. Have a super week!

    1. Thanks, Greg, and I would so love to be at the actual beach, but until I get there, my reading can do it for me.

I’m watching Season 4 of OITNB, but I’ve only watched three episodes. It isn’t grabbing me like it once did….

I watched an Amazon video earlier called Hemingway and Gellhorn, starring Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman. It was pretty engaging.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting.

  2. Elin HIlderbrand is an author on my list to read more of this summer. I enjoyed the one book I’ve read by her and her books seem like great beach reads to me.
I like your idea of a theme around your reading, that sounds fun!
Thanks for sharing my post ❤

  3. I love that you are on a beachy-themed month now. Sometimes we have to follow our mood and that puts us into a trend of certain books that appeal at the moment. Beach Blues looks fabulous!

I’m reading I’ve Got Sand in All the Wrong Places by Lisa Scottoline and just got the second in the Beach series by Wendy Wax, so I’m feeling in sync with you right now 🙂 But I’m also going to shake things up a bit in July and read a couple of genres I don’t read often, such as YA fantasy and small-town contemporary, besides my NG picks.

    Enjoy your week!

    1. Oh, I definitely want to read that Scottoline book, Rita…her nonfiction titles are such fun. She has a great sense of humor and I love laughing along with her.

Shaking things up can be delightful. Enjoy!

  4. I find my books seem to fall in themes without me even trying to coordinate them – I’ve just read two books in a row about grief which followed a couple about drugs – The Perfect Girl is one of my most anticipated reads for next month.

    1. That happened with mine, too, Cleo, since the NG books for June had the word “girls” in each title, and I hadn’t planned it that way. The same with the “perfect” for July. I had been eagerly awaiting The Perfect Girl, too, so it’s great that it fell into that “theme.” lol

I do tend to try picking summer reads in the summer, though. Thanks for stopping by.

  5. I so love the beach reads. They are making me feel like I’m really there and it’s great since I’m not really going anywhere. I have to depend on these staycations for now. Have a great week!

    1. Me, too, I plan to go to the beach every summer, and so far, I’ve stayed right here…lol. So yes, the beach reads can bring the beach into our living rooms. Thanks for visiting, Yvonne.

    1. I really loved Revenge. Whenever I read a series with several seasons, I end up feeling bonded to the characters and missing them when it’s over. Enjoy whatever you pick, Kei, and thanks for visiting.

It’s been hot in Sacramento so we’ve all been staying indoors. I hope we both get some cooler weather soon. I need to watch Orange Is The New Black and I’ve heard so many good things about it. I hope you have a good week and enjoy all your new books.

    1. I stayed indoors all day today, and most of yesterday. I manage the heat better that way.

I have watched half of Season 4 to OITNB and I’m really getting into it. But trying not to binge quite as much, so I’ll have more to look forward to.

Enjoy your week, Kathy, and I plan to do the same.

  7. Lots of blogging though Laurel, even if you did only read the one book. I’ve had a review low reading and writing weeks of late but am finally getting comfortable with the idea of ‘doing what I can’ on the blog. I often have other commitments (writing elsewhere) and I’m allowed to stress about those as I’ve usually committed to certain deadlines, but as for things I’m putting on my own blog – I need to worry less!

    1. Yes, Deborah, I think that some weeks I feel like blogging and talking about my books instead of reading…lol.

      Also there’s the Netflix thing.

Thanks for stopping by…have a great week!

    1. Definitely! I love shopping, especially when there is a book credit. And I am glad I decided not to watch Season 4 in one sitting. Now I have something to look forward to. Thanks for stopping by, Lucy, and enjoy your week.

    1. Oh, I didn’t give up on OITNB….just decided to pace myself. I definitely plan to pick up more episodes, but not all in one sitting like I usually do.

I am excited about the books I picked…and looking forward to The Perfect Girl. Thanks for visiting, Grace, and enjoy your week.

Summer reading! We haven’t started OITNB season 4 yet — I know what you mean about it starting to lose its grip. I noticed that by the end of last season.

    1. I decided that I needed to pace myself, with all that intensity of the show. Also, some of my regular TV shows are back from hiatus (Murder in the First, Rizzoli & Isles, Major Crimes), so I don’t want to spend as much time on Netflix. Thanks for stopping by, Beth, and I also want to get more reading in. Enjoy your week!

  9. I loved Flight Patterns and see several on my wish list here. I want to read a beach book this summer, and Wendy Wax has the book I want. I just hope to fit it in because it’s been too long since I read one of her books. Morning coffee is the best coffee, isn’t it? Enjoy your newly created dining space. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Kathy, and I love changing up my spaces, especially since it makes me feel like everything is new…lol. I love Wendy Wax, and you will probably slip right into the story with these women. Enjoy!

That Amazon credit was a nice surprise, wasn’t it? I haven’t turned on my television for a couple of weeks. My books, Kindle, and computer are keeping me busy enough as I enjoy our gorgeous weather. Come see what I read last week. Happy reading!

    1. I love surprises like that one, especially since I’m STILL waiting for my state tax refund after more than four months! A mistake was made by the state, which has now been corrected. Still no money, though.

So…the credit came at the right time. Thanks for visiting, Kathy, and enjoy your reading.

    1. I can’t wait to read Vinegar Girl…my last book by this author was A Spool of Blue Thread, which I enjoyed…in fact, I can’t recall every disliking one of her books.

Thanks for stopping by, Kathryn, and I hope to read this book soon.

    1. Sun is good, except when it’s too hot…lol. But even so, I’ll take the hot summers if it means our winters can be mild, which they usually are. Thanks for visiting, Jane, and have a great week.

  11. I think it’s been slow reading for a lot of us this week….it’s a good thing you enjoyed your one book (imagine if you hadn’t). I like the look of The Perfect .girl from this week’s haul. It’s on my list too.

  12. I love that you put together a new reading spot in your house! The husband and I just spruced up our “library.” It’s such a fun way to breathe some new life into your home.

I may be the only one who isn’t watching OITNB, but husband and I just finished our rewatch of The West Wing and now we are on the lookout for a new show!

    1. Thanks, Lindsey, I am constantly searching for new ways to make over my spaces..lol.

I LOVED The West Wing, and wanted it to go on forever. I like shows like that one (and House of Cards) more than OITNB.

I also enjoyed some BBC police procedurals, like Broadchurch and The Fall.

      Have fun searching….

  13. I used to follow a theme, or even get obsessed with one author, for weeks at a time, but now I seem to be all over the place. Information overload on all the new releases . . . but I mean that in a good way.
