AVOIDANCE & BLOG PLAYING….BOOK DISTRACTIONS?

cropped-picmonkey-image-curl-up.jpg

The other day, I wrote My TBR Stacks:  A Closer Look, hoping to zero in on my reading progress…and plan accordingly.  I also wrote a little about my fickle reading choices on Friday Potpourri:  Book Hopping, Etc.

Instead of really curling up to read, though, I’ve been creating new blog headers, like the one above…and like this one (below), at Serendipity.

picmonkey-image-nov-serendipity

***

And then…(below) over at Potpourri:

picmonkey-image-another-newest-one

I think this one (above) is my favorite!

But…I also like the one at this site….I’m not quite finished with Serendipity, though.   It doesn’t really resonate with me, for some reason.  I’m sure I’ll be working on that, though.

***

So…let’s get to it.  I do have a list of books I hope to read in the next few weeks…and, yes, I am veering off course occasionally, but I’m still whittling away at the stacks.

Hillbilly Elegy is one I’m reading now…although I’m also reading Two If by Sea (halfway finished).  I want to pick up Inheriting Edith soon, as well.

All good choices, since they’re on my TBR pile.  But…shouldn’t I finish one of them?  Or two?

Let’s face it…I’ll do my back and forth dance with my books, I’ll watch a little Netflix…anything to avoid having to clean the house.  Yes, I’ve done the bathrooms and the kitchen…but I hate vacuuming and dusting.  lol.  I can always do it tomorrow, right?

What do you like to do instead of housework?  Does reading (or the pretense of reading) keep you away from tasks you would like to avoid?

AN UPCOMING CHANGE: MOVING WEEKLY UPDATES

June 3 office changes 3

Good morning!  Friday is here already, and it feels as though I blinked and the week flew by.

Here’s a little heads-up for those who visit my Weekly Updates.  This coming week, and for the foreseeable future, I will be returning to my Serendipity blog for that post.

I like to change this event around, just so readers can see my other blogs.

I’m on my third book this week, which is not as great as last week (with four books), but I’ve been loving all my books, and savoring this one, The Beauty of the End, by Debbie Howells.

I try to avoid the Amazon Vine page, since I don’t want to over stuff my stacks with review books, but today I found a book that I was going to buy anyway…so, of course I requested it.

Falling, by Jane Green, is  a novel about the pleasure and meaning of finding a home—and family—where you least expect them…

So now I’m curling up with my current read…and hoping to finish by day’s end.  Enjoy your weekend!

WEEKLY UPDATES: JULY IS HERE!

JULY WEEKLY UPDATES

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Wow, what a great week I had!  After my lackluster reading numbers in June, I felt as though I was off to a great start for July with my FOUR books read and reviewed this week.  Plus…the books were all amazing.  I read two of them in the last two days, which means that I was riveted to my reading spot.

After reading mostly review books this week, I was able to add one more to my Read the Books You Buy Challenge, which now totals 38 books.

It is still very hot, with triple digits again…and I’m happy that the AC is working.

I haven’t watched Netflix at all this week, but I hope to resume Orange Is the New Black again this weekend.  My grandson Noah will be here, glued to his X-box, which frees me up to do my thing…lol.  I added a new show to my list:  Marcella, which is all about a woman whose life is a train wreck…and she is in search of a killer.  Sounds good, right?  Grab some coffee, and let’s chat.

WEEKLY UPDATES: ENJOYING BEACH READS

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Wow, what a slow reading week I had!  But I savored my ONE book read (and reviewed it), so I guess it’s all good. I was swept along by the beach scenes in the novel, and felt as though I were there with the characters.  I could almost smell the sweet salt air.

Hot days here were my coming-back-to-reality moments, and I stayed inside except for brief outings to the shops.

Then came the fabulous e-mail with an Amazon credit, due to a settlement with Apple e-books.  Yay!  I’ll bet you can imagine my “click to buy” delight.

There was Netflix viewing, of course, and I finished Revenge, started Orange Is the New Black.-Season 4..and then stopped.  Taking a break, but I’ll get back to it soon.

But first, let’s savor each day, especially Coffee Mornings like this one, in my newly created dining space:

WEEKLY UPDATES: HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

PicMonkey CollageNEW JUNE LOGO

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Today’s temperature is in the 80s, but by Monday, we’ll be in the triple digits again.  Yikes!

It’s not as if we’re not used to it…it’s like this every year, and our long hot summers are a legend.

Reading has been better this week, with three books read and reviewed, and all of them were review books from NetGalley and Vine.  I spent too much time on my second book this week, so it’s a good thing that the other two were compelling page turners.

Bloggiesta has begun for today and tomorrow, but I’ve been working on my blog since Monday.  Yes, I tend to get impatient and start early.

I’m loving my Netflix shows, and I’m on Season III of Revenge.  I also plan to start watching Season IV of Orange Is the New Black.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there….and for everyone else, have a wonderful week!  Here’s some coffee to get us going today.

Welcome into my bookish/blogging world, as I reflect on what happened in the past several days.  The hot temperatures continued until yesterday, and now we are back in the 90s for a bit.  But never fear, the triple digits are near…again.

I did quite a bit of blogging this week, but only finished two books.  My total for my Read the Books You Buy Challenge is now at 37, however.  I am back to reading NetGalley e-ARCS and hope to finish a couple of those by the end of next week.

My Netflix bingeing of Revenge has continued this week, and I’m on Season II.  And next week, a fourth season is coming for Orange Is the New Black…yay!

Tonight I celebrated the week with dinner at Mimi’s, another neighborhood place.  I had soup (Corn Chowder) and a margarita, along with Pippa.

It has been a very HOT week, with triple digits.  Any plans I had to go to the nearby Craft Beer Crawl (seriously, I wouldn’t do that anyway), are now on the back burner…way back.  I spent some time rearranging my stuff last night, and I went to bed very early.  See what I did in this post about More Furniture Shuffling.

I planned to finish reading my current book before posting this, but I am tired…and might spend some more time today watching movies and Netflix.  Especially since I now have straightened out my bank for the mistakes they made in my account!  But before that happened, I was stressing out in a major way.

I have read and reviewed THREE books this week, all review books, so I’m right on track.

WEEKLY UPDATES: A FEW DISTRACTIONS

PicMonkey Collage-4th version

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

My plans for the week were flexible, but I had expected to do better than the TWO books I read and reviewed.  Alas, my Netflix addiction grabbed me again.  I found another engaging series, called The Killing, and I’m almost finished with the second of four seasons.  Set in Seattle, the show captured my interest with its mix of a murder mystery and a corrupt political campaign.  Throw in a nearby casino with nefarious goings-on, and you can picture all the possibilities.

Meanwhile, however, I have read and reviewed 33 books for my Read the Books You Buy Challenge.

On Wednesday, I took Pippa with me to The Elephant Bar, where I enjoyed a tasty lunch, complete with my favorite Pomegranate martini.
