A fierce blizzard is burying the eastern seaboard, but on the icy Rhode Island shore renowned artist Maddie Morrison finds warm sanctuary from a contentious divorce at the legendary Ocean House. Hours later, her body is found buried under a blanket of snow and her little daughter, CeCe, has disappeared without a trace.
For Detective Conor Reid; his brother, Tom, a coast guard commander; and Maddie’s grieving sister, Hadley, the posh hotel becomes ground zero for an investigation. Trapped by the blizzard, they must hunker down and determine who in the young mother’s life could have possibly wanted her dead.
There are stories of a twisted romantic past. Of old jealousies and resentments that still cut to the bone. And a history of greed, rage, and revenge that created the perfect storm for murder. A storm that has just begun.
As we follow the search for Maddie’s killer and whoever has taken CeCe, we are caught up in a bevy of characters who are suspicious, even as we don’t know how they are connected to events.
Hadley, Maddie’s sister, is broken hearted by her loss, and as she meets others who knew her sister and tries to sort out their possible motives, she also comes to know those who are engaged in the search.
Alternately, Last Night follows CeCe and her captor, and we see how she finds a way to cry out for help in her own way.
Maddie’s art is the centerpiece of much of the story, and I couldn’t stop turning the pages. 5 stars.

Good you enjoyed it. I once read a lot of Luanne Rice but since she turned to more thriller like books I’ve let her go.

Thanks, Kathryn, I am glad I read this one. I hadn’t read her in a long while, either.
