Welcome to another Thursday, and the ramblings that make up My Bookish (and Not So Bookish Thoughts), hosted by Bookishly Boisterous.

I wasn’t going to add a new post today, since I am participating in Bloggiesta...but then I got most of my list for that event completed, so here I am.

Follow the link and find out what I have accomplished so far.  You may have noticed a different look here, and I also added some pages and updated some others.

New blog theme, header, background and blog button.  I love doing this stuff!

Yes, I know many people have fabulous designs created by professionals….but for me, the fun is in doing it.

On the home front this week, I’ve been clearing out drawers:  in my desk, in nightstands, etc., and I shredded a bunch of stuff, too.

The trouble with these tasks…once you get started, the possibilities expand, and the lists are endless!  But I stopped for a while…time to contemplate.

I do need to go out in the garage and organize those bins.  Some of them have papers from more than seven years ago, so I can rid myself of those, too.

I also want to gather up some of my collections and take them to a consignment shop….

See what I mean?  Endless tasks….

What does your bookish/non-bookish life look like this week?

Here we are on Thursday again, ready to celebrate our Bookish (and Not So Bookish) Thoughts, hosted by Bookishly Boisterous.

This week has been unsettling for me.  I received a summons for Jury Duty, but it’s one of those where you have to check in periodically.  Every day, I have held my breath and waited until time to check the Jury website:  Do I have to report, or do I get a reprieve?

And typically, they give me little incremental reprieves, like:  check back tomorrow after 5:00.

We’ve gotten through most of the week this way…except today (Thursday) I have to check at 11:30.  Not “after” 11:30, or “after” 5:00, but at 11:30.  I don’t like the sound of this.  Will I be stuck having this thing carry over into next week?  Will I have to spend my Friday downtown?

See, that’s the other thing.  If I have to go, it involves going to the downtown part of the city, with parking problems, etc., and I recall how I worked downtown for many years and how stressful that all was.  So I’m not looking forward to any of this.

Okay, it’s not that Jury Duty is horrible, or anything, but yes, it does mess up my routines.  And I was just chatting about that very thing over at my Musings Post.  It’s not that I don’t enjoy changing things up…I actually do.  But I want it to be my choice!  Yes, I’ve ranted about waiting on other people’s schedules, having my routines rearranged by the needs of others…and I know that my need to choose what I do with my days is very important to me.

So…heavy sigh.  Let’s hope for the best.

Meanwhile, I was checking my TBR stacks, for my Mt. TBR Challenge, I have pledged to read 36 books this year that I purchased before 2014, including e-books.  I’ve done pretty well, having finished 26 of them so far.  I went to my pages of Book Purchases, and I have seven books unread that I purchased before this year:  Two books in 2011; one book in 2012; and four books in 2013.  So, strangely enough, I won’t make the number even if I read all of these.

But then I remembered the REALLY old stack that isn’t on this blog:  Books Purchased Before 2009, when I started the blog.  And there are seven of them!  Yay!  So I picked out three and stacked them on my coffee table/trunk.

I don’t even want to talk about the books that I have purchased THIS year so far that I haven’t read.  Am I crazy?

The only books I read in a timely manner are the review books.  I guess that’s good, though.  What are your thoughts on your TBR Stacks?

Here are the new (unread) print books (front row) that I purchased this year…but before you are impressed, this does not include, of course, all the many books on Sparky.

Welcome to another Thursday!  Today I’m participating in a little meme hosted by Bookishly Boisterous:  a chance to explore a variety of thoughts.

Thursdays are an odd day in the week, so I serendipitously discovered this little event last week, and decided to hop on board.

This week has been strangely out of sync, as the management of my condo complex is doing routine maintenance.  But they don’t tell you when they are coming!  The note says “anytime between 9 and 2:30, Mon. to Fri.”

I hate that, because for me, that means staying home every day between those hours.

I have one of those homes with lots of collections, etc., so the “bull in the china shop” guys have a tendency to mow them down as they go about their business.  Am I being sexist?  No, I have just observed a lot of guys doing their work, whether it’s construction or maintenance, for many years.  And that is why I have elected to stay close to home when they arrive…to observe and protect my turf.  LOL

The upside:  I have been reading, and the books I selected for this week have been wonderfully engaging.  Small Blessings, by Martha Woodroof (click for review) is one of those books that seemed to wrap itself around me like a cozy shawl, as each character brought something special to the canvas.

Today I am reading Big Little Lies, by Liane Moriarty, and those pages seem to fly through my fingers.  There is bullying, and there is lots of competition between the mums at the school, and there is a murder…we think.  The hint of it hovers over every page, as we wonder who did what to whom.

The kinds of books that definitely distract me during this long, hot week of annoyances.

Oh, and by the way…it is Thursday, I’ve been stuck at home all week, and they haven’t come yet!  I cancelled my hair stylist for today…just because they might come today.

I looked in the mirror and studied my locks…they can manage another week.

Blogging is something else that distracts me when I’m waiting for things….and I have done something on my blogs every day this week.

I have changed themes, headers, etc.  Did you notice that this blog has a new look?

So…now I’m off to grab my breakfast tray and enjoy a little munching.  What are you up to today?
