My TBR Jar, shown above, contains slips of paper with unread book titles from 2014, 2015, and the first half of 2016. I don’t seem to be moving these off the shelves, since I’m focusing on the newer books for my Read the Books You Buy Challenge (spotlighting 2017 purchases, along with those bought in the second half of 2016).
Sometimes it helps to actually list the books I need to read…and perhaps highlight those that I have a chance of picking soon.

In The Woods is definitely worth reading. My challenge this year was to read 36 books purchased before 1 January 2017 and so far it’s working- not only am I clearing the older books, I’ve not acquired quite so many new ones!

I want to read In the Woods, but it’s hefty, so I keep waiting for when I have some small books on the list for the week. LOL.

I feel guilt when I see the TBR list on my Kindle. Its about fifteen books and I have told myself, one current read, one older book! so far its working.

You are disciplined, Mystica. I wish I could curtail my book buying a bit more. But slowly I’m working on reading books on my stacks and on my Kindle.

i know some people used the TBR jar extensively a few years ago but their approach was a bit different – they stuck their hand in the jar and committed to read whatever slip of paper came out. I tried it for a while but kept cheating when I didn’t like what I pulled out 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, Karen, and that was how I’d planned to use the TBR Jar…but I picked from my list, and technically those titles are in the jar. I just cheated a little bit. LOL.

I work from my TBR lists when not reading NetGalley/review/tour titles. I try to read 100 TBR a year. I have so many I keep planning to do a random word pick but haven’t done that yet. Instead I have a “Kindle TBR List” that I put titles in alphabetically that catch my eye. Then I can pick from those to help my Alphabet Challenge if I need to. I hope you enjoy the TBRs you have picked. 🙂
