WEEKLY UPDATES: JULY IS HERE!

JULY WEEKLY UPDATES

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Wow, what a great week I had!  After my lackluster reading numbers in June, I felt as though I was off to a great start for July with my FOUR books read and reviewed this week.  Plus…the books were all amazing.  I read two of them in the last two days, which means that I was riveted to my reading spot.

After reading mostly review books this week, I was able to add one more to my Read the Books You Buy Challenge, which now totals 38 books.

It is still very hot, with triple digits again…and I’m happy that the AC is working.

I haven’t watched Netflix at all this week, but I hope to resume Orange Is the New Black again this weekend.  My grandson Noah will be here, glued to his X-box, which frees me up to do my thing…lol.  I added a new show to my list:  Marcella, which is all about a woman whose life is a train wreck…and she is in search of a killer.  Sounds good, right?  Grab some coffee, and let’s chat.

  2. Four books- wow! You did have a good reading week. Mine on the other hand was lackluster, but oh well. I haven’t watched much Netflix either, which is new for me lol, but I did see that new show Marcella as well and was curious…

I can’t imagine triple digits w/o AC, I’m glad your air is working too! I’ll need to check out your Picmonkey, I’ve been meaning to learn how to use that.

Mmm, soup and a margarita! 🙂

    1. I love soups even more than salads, although soup AND salad is also a favorite. Definitely must have a margarita…or a martini when I go out.

I hope to watch Marcella tomorrow.

And I am very grateful that I have AC…and that it does a good job. Thanks for stopping by, Greg, and I hope you have fun with Picmonkey.

    1. Yes, we complain about it every year, even though we know full well that it’s always like this…lol. If we didn’t have AC, then we would have something to complain about.

Thanks for stopping by, Kathryn, and I guess the weather is a trade-off. Hot summers, mild winters…or very cold and stormy winters and milder summers.

    1. Oh, that is sad, Deborah…one of my friends can’t have booze when we go out because of her medications….but she always insists that I have a drink anyway. It doesn’t seem fair.

I am glad you have some enjoyable books, too.

    1. Thanks, Sarah, and I do grumble about the heat, but I’ve lived in it most of my life. I had a brief reprieve when I lived in the Bay Area…and I love it there! Sigh.

Enjoy your week, and The Perfect Neighbors was a delightful read. Thanks for stopping by.

      1. As I get older, I do – somewhat wistfully – wonder if I’ll ever get a chance to grumble about the heat ever again, as climate change seems to mean that we have cool, wet summers and cold wet winters:(

    1. Yes, Mary, too hot…but I guess I’m used to it. Coping, etc. Indoors for most of the summer, except evenings. My daughter has a lovely pool. I have a community pool here, but I prefer hers.

Thanks for stopping by, and I was amazed at the four books I read. Last week’s lackluster ONE book will hopefully be the exception going forward.

Enjoy your holiday and the week!

    1. I should have The Beauty of the End read and reviewed by midweek….and I also love the cover of The Dinner. The book is one I ogled when it came out…and then I got distracted. Something reminded me of it again.

Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting, Mareli….

  3. Good books all around, this week for you! I read your other posts this week and I also want to read Flight Patterns, The Beauty of the End, In Twenty Years, and the new Pekkanen. I’ve read all these authors except for Karen White before, but I heard good things about White’s books so I’m curious.

It’s been too dang hot here lately and I hope it eases up before my granddaughter comes. She comes from central coast of FL which is very humid around this time of year, but the temps are more like in the 80s mostly, not around 100!

Enjoy your reading and your margaritas!

    1. Yes, to how hot it is! But I’ve lived in California my whole life, and except for the time I spent in lovely SF, it was always too hot in the summer. lol

I think you should give Karen White a whirl…maybe start with her later books. She writes such lovely characters and settings.

The new Pekkanen might have been my favorite by this author. Thanks for visiting, Rita.

    1. Ah, steak…can’t remember when I last had it! Sounds tempting. Yesterday, I had a burger with my teenage grandson…and pizza. Also, not something I have often. Thanks for stopping by, Harvee. Enjoy!

  4. I could not cope with that heat! I’m interested in the Debbie Howells book. I liked The Bones of You, though wasn’t that keen on the main character but I did think it was well written. Have a good week.

  5. It’s been cooler where I live this week with temperatures in the 70s and low 80s but I know it’s going to be going back up to the 90s later this week so I’m enjoying it while I can.

I am curious about In Twenty Years and I will have to check out your review of the new Sarah Pekkanen book. I hope to read it soon.

Your drink looks really pretty! I don’t drink alcohol, but if I did that’s what I would get. Or maybe it doesn’t even have alcohol and I don’t know anything about alcoholic beverages. Have a good week! 🙂

    1. Ah, yes, the X-box and every other electronic device that absorbs teens, twenty-somethings, and all millennials….lol. Those who are so addicted to these things pretty much ignore all other communication, like interaction on a personal level.

There…rant over. Thanks for stopping by, Deb.

  7. That Margarita looks so good. I want one! 🙂 I’m hoping to start Orange is the New Black this weekend. I’m going to take a break from Bloodline to watch OITNB. I’m trying too hard not to read spoilers. Have a great week!

    1. Have you watched any of the seasons of OITNB? I hope you enjoy it. And it is hard to avoid spoilers, isn’t it? Usually what I’ve seen around has been stuff like “Oh, wait until you see those last two episodes!”

Thanks for visiting, Yvonne, and that Margarita was definitely good.

    1. After last week, when I only read ONE book, I felt quite good about my four reads. I was thinking I might have my reading mojo back. Thanks for visiting, Tracy, and I hope to enjoy The Beauty of the End.

Your July has gotten off to a good start! Yay for a better reading month! I haven’t yet started Orange is the New Black yet either. Maybe after my mom’s visit later this month. I doubt I’ll get much television watching done while she’s here. The Dinner is on my wish list. I’ve heard good things about it and hope you like it.

Have a Happy Fourth of July, Laurel-Rain, and a wonderful week!

    1. Yes, it is pretty hot….but if I stay indoors in the AC, it’s okay. If I go out, I go quickly, and only to air-conditioned shops. lol.

Thanks for stopping by, Jane, and enjoy your week.

    1. Thanks, Grace, and even though martinis are still my favorites, I love to change things up and have something that reminds me of spicy foods. Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week. Hope you enjoy In Twenty Years.

  9. That looks like one tasty margarita. Yum!!
The weather here has been pretty bad. But since I’ve been working a lot I haven’t been rained on as much as the rest of Holland was! LOL!!
I hope to catch up on my reading this week.. I’m feel like I’m behind all the time. Great job on your reading. Four books in a week.. I’m so jealous! 😉
Have a great week and Happy reading!

    1. Thanks, Maureen….I don’t usually read that many….some weeks are really poor, like week before last with one book.

I think the fast-paced riveting books help to add to my totals.

Enjoy your week! My son and DIL, who live in Prague, visited Amsterdam this past month.

    1. Yes, the Margarita seems to be a “fan favorite.” lol. I also love the cover of In Twenty Years…and while I’m still a little nervous about The Dinner, I am eager to find out more.

      Thanks for visiting, Marce.

  10. I suspect next year I ought to join a Read the Books You Buy challenge. Or put a moratorium on buying books until I get some read! (Then again, I’d never stick to the latter.) Four books in a week is stellar! Hope you get plenty of reading time this week, too. Happy 4th of July!

    1. Thanks, Lark, I hope to get some reading done today…and I can’t seem to curtail the book buying. Although I think I’ve cut down a bit, by requesting review books instead of buying some of them.

Enjoy whatever you decide to do about your book buying and reading.
