WEEKLY UPDATES: MORE BLOGGING, LESS READING

PicMonkey Collage-WEEKLY UPDATES LOGO IN JUNE

Good morning! Today’s post will link up to The Sunday Salon, The Sunday Post and Stacking the Shelves, for weekly updates.

**Mailbox Monday is hosted at the home site: Mailbox Monday.

And let’s join Kathryn, our leader in It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, at Book Date.

Welcome into my bookish/blogging world, as I reflect on what happened in the past several days.  The hot temperatures continued until yesterday, and now we are back in the 90s for a bit.  But never fear, the triple digits are near…again.

I did quite a bit of blogging this week, but only finished two books.  My total for my Read the Books You Buy Challenge is now at 37, however.  I am back to reading NetGalley e-ARCS and hope to finish a couple of those by the end of next week.

My Netflix bingeing of Revenge has continued this week, and I’m on Season II.  And next week, a fourth season is coming for Orange Is the New Black…yay!

Tonight I celebrated the week with dinner at Mimi’s, another neighborhood place.  I had soup (Corn Chowder) and a margarita, along with Pippa.

  1. Oh my such hot temperatures. I’d hate them. But sun is always welcome! I have never read Shelley Noble but I intend trying her, I read Mary’s review and I think it would suit me. Nice gift to receive. I am trying to avoid review books so I can get my count up of the books I buy, second half of year has to be it!!

    1. Thanks, Kathryn, and yes, it’s too hot! Good thing we have air conditioning, right? I try not to go out in the hot part of the day, but that could be any time of the day…lol.

I am looking forward to reading more of the books I’ve bought…catching up on review books in the next couple of weeks, but hoping to slide a purchased book or two onto the queue. I am also looking forward to Forever Beach, which sounds like my kind of read. Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy!

    1. I love the look and sound of Forever Beach, Mary, and can’t wait to sneak it into the queue, in between some review books. Thanks again…and I love Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books, too, a recent discovery of mine. I hope you are enjoying your weekend….and yes, that chowder was delicious.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Hot hot hot! We had cooler temps here earlier in the week then it got hot yesterday and today. Although that’s relative- I think your temps would make ours seem cool by comparison! I haven’t watched revenge yet… and that meal looks yummy.

Death at Breakfast- love that mysterious looking cover.

Liked your Thur post about synchronicity. Funny how life works sometimes. 🙂 And I got a kick out of the restaurant pic.

    Have a great week!

    1. Thanks, Greg, and I do love life’s funny little coincidences…or synchronicity. And that restaurant picture…I hadn’t even noticed the strange facial expressions until I uploaded it onto the blog post. But what can you say? They are teenagers. lol

But they do come in handy; I spent the day with my 19-year-old granddaughter, who assembled my new office chair. In exchange, she got lunch and a book from Barnes & Noble…lol.

      Enjoy your week!

    1. The only way I can remember, as I sometimes watch more than one at a time, is to write down the episodes (and seasons) as I watch them. Otherwise, it would be hopeless. Thanks for stopping by, Gen, and enjoy your week.

  3. I almost couldn’t find you today… I looked through your other blogs and you blog so much. It’s very impressive.

I actually enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Revenge but ditched it in the second last season I thought it was. It just got a bit too over-the-top and I felt the plot gaps were growing!

    1. Oh, I’m sorry you had trouble finding me. I’m going to try to keep these weekly updates on this blog for now. It’s easier to find me once we sign up at the Caffeinated Book Reviewer’s place.

I also sign up at Tynga’s Reviews on Saturdays.

I’m still on Season II, but I wonder how far things will go before I give up, too. Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy your week.

  4. Gotta love the heat. I have 7 books in my NetGalley account and are trying to get them all read before I go looking for more books, since I have plenty of BEA books to keep me busy. I can plow through books, but try to make sure I never read more than 2 before stopping to write reviews. Sometimes I would rather read..That dish looks yummy. I hope you had a good time!

    1. Thanks, Kimberly, and I also have to write my reviews right away. I keep notes, but if I didn’t immediately write the review after finishing each book, I fear that it would be a disaster. Yes, I’m OCD like that.

I have six NetGalley books at the moment, spread out from June to October. I have to stay away from that site, or the number will grow!

Thanks for visiting…and enjoy your week.

  5. I loved the first two seasons of Revenge but lost interest after that. Which is pretty typical for me with shows! I see you’ve lots of great books, I really want to read most of your haul but especially The Girls, One True Loves and All the Missing Girls. Hope you love them all.

    1. I am enjoying The Girls so far, Trish, and hope to finish it today…if I don’t get sidetracked on Netflix.

I’m still on Season II of Revenge, so maybe I will hang on for a while. Enjoy your week, and thanks for visiting.

    1. Thanks, Emma, I agree about the cocktail….and I’m also eager to read these books. I noticed The Exit when I was searching for another book by the author…and remembered how much I enjoyed The Cry. Have a great week!

  6. Oh my word – those temperatures are unimaginable in this part of the world – we are only really set up to cope with drizzle here in England… Until very recently, the temperature at night has been plunging down to the low 50s at night, which held everything back in the garden, rather. But now it has warmed up, everything is going crazy – especially the weeds and my echiums:). Hope you manage and can find consolation in reading – do you find reading of colder climes helps when you’re sweltering?

    1. Thanks, Sarah, and luckily, the air conditioning keeps me comfortable, as long as I stay indoors. Most of the shops around here are pretty cool, too. My eldest son has been living in Europe for a couple of decades now (England, Ireland, Czech Republic, Germany), so when he came back for a visit last summer, he was suffering. He hadn’t visited in the summer before, and it had been a long while since he lived in these parts. Needless to say, the air conditioning got its workout. (I don’t usually run it at night, but we did when he was here).

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week.

Triple digits?! Yikes!! Hopefully y’all will cool off some. I loved Revenge. I still need to watch the last season though. We got rid of cable about halfway through the TV season that year and I never got the chance to catch up. We’re on the last leg of Gilmore Girls. Only about half a season left. Hope you have a great week 🙂

    1. Thanks, Yvonne, I’m eager to pick up where we left off on OITNB. Revenge is still holding my interest. I’m trying to do some reading today, too; The Girls is captivating. Enjoy your week!

It was a pleasant 89F yesterday here. No sun though. It looks like the sun is out today though. How are you enjoying Revenge? I almost dropped the show in the final season, but I held on. I loved that first season the most, I think.

I hope you have a great reading week, Laurel-Rain!

    1. Yes, the first season of Revenge was definitely the best, although I’m still hanging in there. It is hard to keep up the same intensity in later seasons, and some of the actions are a bit much.

Today I’m reading The Girls and enjoying it. Have a great week, Wendy.

    1. I am enjoying The Girls, Anne…I like how it’s written, from the perspective of the MC in later years, going back and forth in time, showing us what happened slowly, building in intensity.

      Enjoy your week!

You are doing great on your reading challenges! I’m struggling with my ARC challenge but I plan to read some ARCs this summer. Our weather has been cool but just like you it won’t last long. That’s just how summer in CA is lol. I hope you have a great week!

Also, that corn chowder looks delicious! I hope you have a great week!

    1. I read my first book by Taylor Jenkins Reid this past year, and then promptly read all of her back list. Naturally I had to get the newest one. Thanks for stopping by, Lynn.

I seemed to blog a lot instead of reading…I don’t know why!

What is Death at Breakfast – that cover catches my eye! Going to check it out. Yay for One True Loves!!! SO good. Hope you enjoy!! For the first time ever, my husband and I are thinking of getting rid of cable and replacing it with Netflix or Hulu. I may just be able to catch up on all these shows people love so much!
    Have a great week!

  13. I can’t stand those triple digit temperatures! We’re in the mid 90’s here and the triples are coming in about another month or two. I remember someone frying an egg on the street because of the high temps when I was young; it made it into the local newspaper. Ugh.
    Have a great week, Laurel!

    1. I’m with you on triple digits, but they seem to be our summers here. Luckily it does dip down occasionally, like this week it has been in the 90s.

Enjoy your week…and thanks for stopping by, Kathy.

  15. I am really looking forward to Orange is the New Black as well. Hopefully I can control myself with this season and not fly through all the episodes. I’d like to space them out because it is such a long wait in between seasons. Its going to be interesting to see what happens though.
Hope you have a nice week.

It’s been really hot here too, but we are looking at a cool down now. I love all of your books listed this week, especially Sweetbitter (seeing it everywhere!) and Forever Beach. I love all the beach reads in the summertime. Have a great week and happy reading!

  17. Oh! I’ve been wanting to binge watch Revenge for a long time, but we don’t have it on Netflix here. Maybe one day! 🙂
You’ve got a great list here. I’ve been wanting to read The Girls and All the Missing Girls, so I’ll be looking forward to reading your thoughts on them. Happy reading!

    1. Thanks, Jamie, and just when I thought there couldn’t possibly be more twists and turns on Revenge, I am stunned by the turn it’s taken halfway through Season 3. I didn’t want to go to sleep last night, since I was really addicted to watching…but I finally did. More today!

I hope you enjoy it, too…and your reading.
