It has been a very HOT week, with triple digits.  Any plans I had to go to the nearby Craft Beer Crawl (seriously, I wouldn’t do that anyway), are now on the back burner…way back.  I spent some time rearranging my stuff last night, and I went to bed very early.  See what I did in this post about More Furniture Shuffling.

I planned to finish reading my current book before posting this, but I am tired…and might spend some more time today watching movies and Netflix.  Especially since I now have straightened out my bank for the mistakes they made in my account!  But before that happened, I was stressing out in a major way.

I have read and reviewed THREE books this week, all review books, so I’m right on track.

  1. Triple digits! Yikes it’s been in the 80’s around here but we’re going to cool off for a few days I guess. That’s too hot for me, I hope you get some cooling breezes or lower temps. Netflix is always a good option when I’m tired- love vegging out in front of a show. 🙂 Did you watch Bloodline? I’m curious your thoughts.

    I love the cover of Wilde Lake, and nice review of The Girls in the Garden. I like books with secrets, and it sounds like maybe you don’t get all the answers in the end?

    1. So true, the heat is hard to take…and I’m okay as long as the air conditioning works…in the mornings, there are slight breezes, but lately, they don’t last long.

      I did watch Season II of Bloodline, and I loved it, but I also discovered that I don’t like any of the Rayburn offspring any more! They all seem to have gone to the dark side. I’m already trying to figure out what went wrong, and my best guess would be all that competitive rivalry their parents set them up for. Remember last season, when Meg went against her mother’s wishes and cut Danny out of the inheritance? Bad move.

      Okay…enough ranting. LOL.

      I’m enjoying Wilde Lake, with its back and forth style between the past and the present, and the slow unfolding of secrets.

      The Girls in the Garden had a lot of weird characters, and those secrets were dark ones, too.

      1. Yes they went some dark places with the Rayburn kids this time! I still like john even though maybe I shouldn’t lol- he is getting increasingly dark, and the whole thing with Eric. I was like is he really going to shoot him? I hoped not, as that would have made him pretty irrdeemable…and Kevin just seemed like a lovable goof last time but here… dealing drugs and whatever else, I lost a lot of sympathy for him. Meg I want to like but like you said- does she have a moral center?

        It sure was fun to watch though. 🙂

    WOW, I’m too hot when it’s 85, I could never handle 100 – dry or not.

    You got some terrific books last week. I go crazy with Kindle books because they just don’t seem to count because they don’t crowd the bookcases LOL

    1. Oh, I know that they say the dry heat isn’t as bad as the humid heat, but triple digits are still hot. I guess I’m used to it, sort of, since I’ve lived more than 40 years in this Central Valley.

      I agree about Kindle books, no crowding of shelves, etc., but they are still there, clamoring to be read. And they are harder to find!

      I do have pages on this blog that show the books I buy, the ones I’ve read and reviewed, etc., so I can kind of keep up with what I have.

    I love that the temps have warmed up, but triple digits is too high!!
    I’ve been too tired to read the past two nights. I don’t see any hope for me picking up my Kindle tonight, either. Instead I’m catching up on blogs. 🙂
    You have some great books!! I really enjoyed All the Missing Girls. And I LOVED Deep Dark!! I hope you enjoy. I’m excited to read the new Matthew Norman book. I loved his previous book.

    1. I always know that we’re going to have triple digits as soon as spring is over, and spring doesn’t last long here. And after 40 some years, you’d think I’d be used to it. But I keep thinking fondly of the time I lived in SF! It was much cooler there.

      I am looking forward to my books, too, Brandie, and I’m glad you enjoyed All the Missing Girls and Deep Dark. We’re All Damaged will be my first from the author.

  5. Nice to go crazy with obtaining books, I do it in cycles too! I so want to read Flight Patterns and will do but not for a while. 😦 Sounds like summer has hit you quickly with such high temps, hope it cools down a little at least.

    1. Oh, I only wish cooling down could happen! I guess it might dip a bit now and then, but this is what our summers look like. One summer it stayed at 114-115 for TEN days. I took off for the beach.

    1. We do have a pool, but it’s a community pool that goes with our condos. But my daughter does have her own pool. I also love the sound of going to the beach, and I hope to visit my youngest son in his “beachy” home soon.

      I was pleasantly surprised to get All Is Not Forgotten…I have had a few “auto approvals” from Net

    The triple digit temperatures have me wanting to stay inside. Unfortunately that hasn’t been possible. I hope this isn’t a sign of what is to come–but then, it wouldn’t be unheard of if it was, would it? I am glad you got your bank account issues sorted.     1. Thanks, Wendy, and every year we act surprised at the triple digits, but this is life here in the Central Valley…lol.

      Those bank issues turned out to be some kind of upgrading they were doing which had a strange effect on my account. It showed the proper balance, but not the series of deductions…so it looked like my money had disappeared!

  8. Hadn’t heard it was so hot in your area. We’re still in the 60s and 70s along Lake Michigan. Hope you’re keeping comfortable and enjoy your new books. I’m a bit behind in DeMaio’s books but I like them. I picked up We’re All Damaged a few weeks ago but not sure when I’ll get around to reading it. Have a good week!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Mary, and yes, our hot summers are legendary, I guess. Although my eldest son, who grew up here, but had been in Europe every summer since he moved there, had totally forgotten about how hot it gets, so when they visited, he was suffering. He spent a lot of time in the pool. lol. I don’t think they’ll visit again in the summer.

      Your weather sounds nice, but your winters, probably not so great. Enjoy your reading…and I love DeMaio’s books…they always make me feel as if I’m at the beach.

    1. Yes, I’ve heard how horrible humidity can be, and how much stickier those hot days are. Extra hot, but dry, might be more comfortable…if one can think of heat as comfortable (air conditioning helps!). Thanks for visiting, Samantha, and enjoy your reading.

  11. Oh my goodness! Triple digits – poor you! I’ve been grumbling because it’s been so very chilly here – I was wearing a thick coat + vest on Friday and STILL cold in town as the temp was a dank mid-50s. But today it’s in the low 70s – I’m loving it, but Himself is wilting – I don’t like to think how he’d cope with anything approaching 100… Another great book haul and a successful month:). Take care – with those temperatures, sitting in a shady nook somewhere with a book sounds the only sensible solution.     1. We have very high air conditioning bills during our summers, as nothing else works. There are no shady trees, except in the very early morning. But we come to expect how it is, and grumble a bit, but after living here for more than 40 years, I can’t really complain. After all, I could move, right?

      1. Thank you for popping in, Laurel – and I’m sure your bills must be high. Do you have solar panels, at all? While I think that air conditioning is the invention of the Devil in this country – train journeys are a misery as I’m always freezing as I sit there and shops are too cold for me – we are dealing with temperatures on an entirely different scale where you are.

      2. No, my place was built in the 80s and reflects the technology of the times. No solar panels or anything that would make it more environmentally friendly. I am renting, so it’s not something I can add.

Thanks, Lillian, and it’s even worse because those officials at the bank are so stiff and detached, and not at all helpful…they say things like “we’ll get it worked out as soon as possible,” and I want to scream. Actually, I think I did some shouting, forcefully reminding them that I could change banks.

      It did get sorted within a couple of hours, though, and maybe it would have worked itself out, as it was some kind of technical issue, an upgrade. Oh, I hate upgrades! lol.

      It did get my mind off the heat for a bit, though; and we should be used to the triple digits by now, as they start in June (sometimes May) and continue throughout the summer, sometimes into September and October. I think the term “long hot summer” was written about this place. lol.

        Oh wow!!! That’s terrible they weren’t helpful. My debit card info was stolen last year and our account wiped but the bank took care of everything and was really helpful. But it was so stressful. I can’t imagine if they hadn’t been helpful…

      2. Well, I should reframe that….she didn’t SOUND helpful, with the cold, detached voice, but since it got fixed, in the end I guess they were.

        My local bank was helpful when I followed up with them…it was the online person, from some faraway place, who felt as though she was not even connected to me and my problem.

        My perception, of course.

  13. We’ve still been having pretty cool weather here. I can’t say I would like it really hot but most days you still need to take a sweater with you. You got some great books. I have to read The Girls, hopefully I will get to it in the next month. Happy Reading 🙂

    1. Thanks, Marie, and I know that one year, when living in a place with moderate temperatures (70s most of the time), I felt really good. But I moved. Not my choice, really, but that’s how it worked out.

      The good news, we are within an hour or two of mountains and beaches.

      I loved The Girls in the Garden, and hope to love The Girls. Those titles are so confusing, aren’t they?

      Those events are held in our neighboring town, the one with the Beer Crawl…it’s kind of a cowboy haven.

  15. Craft beers would taste good on a hot day, but triple digits is just way too hot! Better to just stay home and read. I’ll be curious to hear what you think of Tuesday Nights in 1980. I started it, then got distracted by The Children (which I loved) and my ebook was called back to the library. I’d like to read The Girls, too.

  18. Glad you got all the account stuff straightened out. Nothing with banks is ever very fun. I’ve been having a streaming kind of week as well. Triple digits!     1. I had written my Waiting on Wednesday post about Intrusion, so imagine my glee to find it amongst the Kindle First books. And the Wendy Walker was one of the few “invitations” I got to read a NetGalley book. I’m still new enough with NG that I usually have to request books.

  22. And I thought the 90’s were bad! Today we were suppose to have torrential storms with hail, but just a lot of rain, which is perfect reading weather!

  35. Ha, as a Canadian I always have to do a bit of mental math to figure out what everyone’s talking about when it comes to temperature. You crazy Fahrenheit kids! However you slice it, though, that’s some hot stuff. I live in a pretty mild climate, but we hit 30 degrees this weekend, which sent everyone scurrying around looking for the nearest air conditioning. Since we don’t traditionally get very hot here, no one has air con in their houses, so we all end up doing laps of the shopping malls or watching films to keep cool!

    1. Ha, yes, I can relate (in reverse). My European kids are always speaking in terms of celsius, and my mind doesn’t translate that. They don’t have air conditioning either.

      When they came here to spend the summer last year, my son was suffering. He had forgotten about how hot it gets.

    I love seeing Beach Blues on your list. I loved that book but then again, I love everything she writes. And I absolutley adored Flight Patterns and am seriously thinking about making it my next book club pick. One of the members works in the office of the local honey farm. How perfect would that be?     1. I just started The Girls, and I’m enjoying it so far. I can see how young girls from dysfunctional families could be mesmerized by a cult leader, and the MC in this book fits that description. Thanks for stopping by, Susan.
