Welcome to another Tuesday celebrating bookish events, from Tuesday/First Chapter/Intros, hosted by Bibliophile by the Sea; and Teaser Tuesdays hosted by A Daily Rhythm.
Today’s featured book is a relatively new download for me, and a novel that has been getting quite a bit of positive attention. November 9, by Colleen Hoover, is an unforgettable love story between a writer and his unexpected muse.
Intro: (Fallon)
I wonder what kind of sound it would make if I were to smash this glass against the side of his head.
It’s a thick glass. His head is hard. The potential for a nice big THUD is there.
I wonder if he would bleed. There are napkins on the table, but not the good kind that could soak up a lot of blood.
“So, yeah. I’m a little shocked, but it’s happening,” he says.
His voice causes my grip to tighten around the glass in hopes that it stays in my hand and doesn’t actually end up against the side of his skull.

Teaser: (Ben – Second November 9)
So…where the hell are you, Fallon?
She’s almost two hours late. The waitress has refilled my drink four times. And five glasses of water in two hours is a lot for my bladder, but I’m giving myself half an hour before I go to the restroom, because I’m worried if I’m not sitting here when she walks in, she’ll think I didn’t show and she’ll leave. (28%).
***
Synopsis: Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.
Can Ben’s relationship with Fallon—and simultaneously his novel—be considered a love story if it ends in heartbreak?

What do you think? Would this story capture your interest? Would you keep reading?

Yes, yes I want to know where that glass ends up!

I was just visiting Catherine’s blog and she’s reading a book with “December” in the title. 🙂 This does sound good, Laurel-Rain. I’ve been really curious about Colleen Hoover for awhile now, but have yet to read anything by her. He is either very annoying or she is extremely upset with him for some reason to want to hit him with a glass. Such an interesting premise! I’d like to know more.

I am thoroughly enjoying it, Wendy, and this is my second book by the author. The first was Ugly Love, also unique and engaging. Thanks for stopping by.

I’ve seen a lot about this book and like the synopsis, opener and teaser – an unusual premise for a story too so Ill be keen to see what your thoughts are on this one when you’ve finished.

Oh this sounds absolutely amazing! The beginning sort of reminds me of the beginning of the ‘Gone Girl’, if that makes sense? I’m definitely intrigued and want to read more! Thanks for sharing 🙂 I hope you have a great week!

Laurel, Well the opening definitely make me feel anxious, since my son recently had a girl use a beer bottle on his head, and it bled a lot. So this might not be the book for me. Here’s Mine

I normally don’t really enjoy romance novels, but Colleen Hoover has restored my faith in the genre. I absolutely loved November 9! I hope you are enjoying it as well.
Happy reading! Here is my teaser of The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson.

Maybe I’m reading this wrong, but it sounds like the character is a bit psycho. As a writer myself, that would make this a horror story.

Actually, she’s not….she’s just been badly hurt by her father. Nothing of the horror genre about this one…LOL. Thanks for stopping by, Suzie.

I’m really loving it, Claudia…I am surprised, as I don’t usually read YA books….but the ones I don’t enjoy have a lot of teenage angst, and this one doesn’t seem to have more drama than what one would expect in a story about twenty-somethings (these two are 18 at the beginning of the story).

It sounds like she has some strange relationships. Who really sits contemplating striking someone in the head with a nice heavy glass? Quite the teaser! Here’s mine: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-15o

I wasnt one of those who adored the book, I must say. But I can recognize a good writer when I see one, and in spite of the plot flaws I noticed and a few things I didn’t adhere to, this writer made me laugh, cry, swoon, and, in a word, react. That’s a very good point in my book 😉
