Welcome to another great bookish journey, with Booking Through Thursday.
Today’s Thoughts to Ponder:
Not the kind of “love” question you’re expecting for Valentine’s Day. No, what I want to know is:
What do you love most about reading?
***
I cannot imagine my life without books to read. For as far back as I recall, I’m curled up with a good book.
In my childhood, books took me out of the dreary world of chores and isolation and on various journeys to unimaginable destinations. My childhood favorites included Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, and the Nancy Drew books.
Later I fell in love with romance books, although I didn’t read books for teens. I don’t recall too many intriguing teen stories back in the day. So grown-up romances were my passion. And when I read them, I was in love.
Nowadays, I still enjoy a foray into the world of characters, veering between mysteries and women’s fiction, with an occasional stop at a good psychological thriller.
I like a series, because when I fall in love with a character, I want to follow that character ad infinitum.
I picked up two sequel books at the library yesterday….and can’t wait to dive in.
I also love libraries, even though most of my books now are books I purchase, or books sent to me for review. Here’s my neighborhood library, another reason I love to read. I feel at home in libraries. Whenever I move to a new town (and I moved a lot as a young adult), I find the library before anything else.
At home, I curl up and read at one of my reading spots, which I featured last week. Here’s another view.
What do you love about reading?

You have an actual neighborhood library? When I lived in my college town, walking the few blocks to the library once a week was a highlight of my week. Now I have to drive to the city library, which isn’t anywhere NEAR as charming. That looks like a cozy place to read!
I don’t actually walk there, but I could….usually when I go there, I’m doing a wide variety of errands and the library is the first or maybe the last visit. Awhile ago, when my desktop computer was on its last legs, I even went to this library to use a computer.
I have always enjoyed neighborhood libraries, but there was a time when the downtown city branch was my first choice.
Thanks for stopping by, Smellincoffee.
I also love libraries, but now days I very seldom go there, since I have so many books of my own waiting to be read. However, before I had my own personal library, I visited the library often.
I have a lot of books on my stacks, too, but to avoid buying more books, I will traipse to the library. Thanks for stopping by, Gigi Ann, and enjoy your week!
My wife and I are at the library about once a week, and every other Wednesday I take my Mom to her library.
Even though I have plenty of e-books on my Kindle, I still like a good hardcover for relaxing on the patio with a cigar and a glass of scotch.
I have to have print books, too; I even love owning some, but have cut down on my print book purchases due to the overflowing shelves…lol
That’s where the library comes in….Thanks for visiting, Steve, and I like to relax with a book on the patio, too. Which reminds me…I need to clean my patio!
Happy Valentine’s Day and thanks for stopping by!
Happy Valentine’s Day to you, too, Mermer; I did enjoy this topic today.
Excellent reasons for reading.
Definitely….thanks for visiting, Anthony, and enjoy your reading experiences.
I love that we read the same books as children. I especially devoured Nancy Drew. Psychological thrillers are still often top of my TBR pile.
Me, too. I had a best friend who had a whole box of Nancy Drew books, and she readily lent them to me. I don’t think I owned any; now I have the first three Nancy Drew books in my collection.
I plan to acquire a few more of my childhood favorites. I also have the first Anne of Green Gables book.
Thanks for visiting, Hazel.
I love reading as an escape and to discover new places, heck – new Worlds. it fuels my creativity and my imagination
I think this is a recurring theme amongst all of us who love to read, Tanya. Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts.
I agree, reading is a great escape which everyone needs. Happy Valentines Day!

Oh I love that you included pictures of where you like to read. I am like you I can not recall a time I did not love to curl up with a book and read. I used to spend my summers reading everything I could from the library..and Now I still read as much as I possibly can.
Thank you for stopping by my blog.
You’re welcome, Ambrosia…glad you enjoyed seeing photos of my reading spots….and thanks for visiting today.
I think I was born with a book in my hand… even if it’s tiny! LOL (Though that pretty much applies to all of us I think)
Thanks for stopping by!

Yes, my earliest memories include books. Thanks for visiting, Sophi.
Excellent post! We read the same type of books. I, too, love series books. I so enjoy watching characters grow.
I think that as long as there is another book, the characters live on…and not just in my memories. Thanks for visiting, Yvonne…enjoy your weekend reading.
Love your answer. Many of my favorite childhood memories include books.
